Crohn's disease effects the digestive tract. It is an inflammatory disease and can cause diarrhea and problems in digestion which make it difficult from Crohn's disease to process food. Crohn's can also cause hemorrhoids, anemia and problems with the colon. Sufferers of Crohn's often have trouble maintaining weight and frequently need to seek treatment and calorie supplements to achieve weight gain and maintenance of a healthy weight.
Crohn's disease is one of the two types of chronic idiopathic inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), the other being ulcerative colitis. It can affect anywhere from mouth to anus and the cause is yet unknown. Perhaps it is multiple diseases lumped into one. It can be broadly classified into 1)inflammatory, 2) obstructive and 3) fistulous although these types may frequently co-exist. It can impact outside the gut also including eyes, skin, joints, liver etc. Treatment depends upon the problems caused by it and may include surgery.
